Two works frame this program of early 20th century English Christmas music: Gerald Finzi’s In terra pax and Gustav Holst’s Christmas Day. The program also features carol arrangements by John Rutter, Harold Darke, and Holst. Written during a time when composers looked to the past for inspiration, their music pays homage to the English holiday tradition through a rich repertoire that speaks to the heart of the Christmas spirit.

Start your holiday season with a festive program of carols with the Byrd Ensemble and Players!

Join us for this slightly spooky concert featuring ghostly rags, and music from the thrillers The Brood and Psycho. Pianist Geísa Dutra will join the orchestra for Franz Liszt’s Malédiction for piano and strings. Kick off your Halloween season with this mirthful mix of Music+Morbidity. Inspired by Music Director Adam Stern’s youthful devotion to the horror genre, the concert will showcase the symphony’s strings in a range of pieces from the early 1800s to 1979. The concert will be bookended by classic horror film scores: Howard Shore’s The Shape of Rage from David Cronenberg's film The Brood and Bernard Herrmann’s Psycho: A Narrative for Orchestra from the Alfred Hitchcock classic. The concert will also feature Brazilian-born pianist Geísa Dutra playing Franz Liszt’s Malédiction for piano and strings and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Five Variants on Dives and Lazarus.

As always, children and youth season subscriptions are FREE. Single ticket sales will begin July 20th at $35 adult and $25 senior/military. Pricing for our six-concert series is $180 adult and $120 senior/military.
