Cello & Crystal Alchemy - Earthtone Sound Healing

 —  —

East West Bookshop, 6407 12TH Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98115

Cello & Crystal Alchemy, a unique Sound healing experience with Maria Scherer Wilson, will encourage the body to relax deeply, the spirit to float, and the mind to slow down, as the consciousness shifts into a harmonic sense of being.

Maria Scherer Wilson presents Cello & Crystal Alchemy, an Earthtone Healing sonic experience for those recognizing that Self-care is an essential part of life. Participants will have the opportunity to ride the waves of peaceful vibration, expand their breath, chant sacred sounds and lift their consciousness.

The healing vibrations of Maria’s 100+ year old cello and the crystal singing bowls encourage deep relaxation of the body, mind and spirit. As the brain waves slow down, the consciousness is encouraged to expand, and blockages from the physical, mental and energetic bodies released. Sonic healing has relieved pain, lessened anxiety, reduced inflammation and created feelings of peace, calmness, love and joy.

For complete comfort, please bring anything that will enhance your Sound Healing experience. If you’re choosing the floor for the event, bring a yoga mat, blanket, eye mask, ect. If you’re choosing to sit, you can bring your own meditation bench, or use a chair at East West. Wearing comfortable clothes and layers are recommended. Please refrain from wearing fragrances.

Maria Scherer Wilson, M.M., Reiki Master, opened Earthtone Healing in 2018, a West Seattle energy and sound healing sanctuary where she offers private Usui Reiki and Sound Healing sessions. a mountain's pulse

Inscape Arts & Cultural Center, 815 Seattle Blvd S, Seattle, WA 98134

A free, site specific performance installation created by Paige Barnes and Mya Kerner at Inscape, can be viewed in the basement during their Fall Open Studios & Makers Market between 12-6pm. Maria will be joining the ongoing dance performance with her cello and crystal alchemy singing bowls.

This summer Paige Barnes, dancer and owner of Peony Acupuncture, was in residence at 10 degrees with visual artist Mya Kerner. Together they explored a place where dance, energetic medicine, and sculpture meet through a mountain’s pulse. The project continues Paige's dance research based off the acupuncture pulse listening method and Mya’s exploration of materiality, tradition, and mythology through depictions of the landscape. By researching the environmental landscape and the personal, internal landscape, the project illuminates connection between body and earth, linking the story of a person's pulse with that of a mountain.

Visit inscapearts.org for more information about the space.

Debbie Miller (Vinyl Release) w/Tomo Nakayama and Brenda Xu

Fremont Abbey Arts Center, 4272 Fremont Ave N, Seattle

“Debbie Miller gives a performance like I’ve never seen, or haven’t seen by someone other than Tony Bennett. Her shows are less like concerts and more like conversations. I laugh, get teary-eyed, and laugh some more. She has a class act of a performance.” - Kevin Sur, Artist Home

Debbie Miler will be releasing her much anticipated vinyl, Two Sides. Alex Guy, violin/viola and Maria Scherer Wilson, violoncello, will be joining Debbie on her set. One of the tracks, 'Queen of Hearts,' was recently featured on the PBS documentary series The Great American Read, hosted by Meredith Vieira. Miller has played prominent Northwest festivals like Timbrrr! and Upstream. Miller's music is like a tantalizing book of short stories. In fact, there are few musicians who work as diligently as she to be as narratively engaging. Her lyrics, like tightrope walkers, rollick on the taught wire of song, guiltlessly and pointedly inspiring listeners who crave more of their spectacle.

@ Fremont Abbey Arts Center 7:30p show, 7:00p doors $10 general advance (not including fees)

$15 Day of Show All ages, some seating available, bar w/ID

Tomo Nakayama - tomonakayama.com Named "Best Folk Act 2017" by Seattle Weekly, Tomo Nakayama has consistently created music that is complex, nuanced, and emotionally compelling. His decade of work both as a solo artist and as frontman in his chamber-pop band Grand Hallway has been praised by NPR, New York Times, and KEXP. Known for his crystalline high-tenor voice, intricate fingerpicking, cinematic production style, and simple, poetic lyrics imbued with warmth and humanity, Tomo’s songs have drawn comparisons to Paul Simon, Elliott Smith, and Jeff Buckley. He has also composed music for film and television, and starred as an actor opposite Ellen Page in Lynn Shelton’s Sundance Grand Jury nominated movie “Touchy Feely”. He has shared the stage with Cornelius, Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie), Jeremy Enigk (Sunny Day Real Estate), Laura Gibson, Tom Brosseau, Damien Jurado, LAKE, Mirah, Fruit Bats, Sera Cahoone, and many others. His self-produced second solo album, Pieces of Sky finds Nakayama venturing further into the digital chamber folk sound of his debut album while incorporating ambient synths, dream pop atmospherics and analog drum machines into the mix. They reflect his experiences of, among other things, touring solo across the US, Japan, and Europe, and a year spent busking and people watching at Seattle Tacoma International Airport.

Brenda Xu - brendaxu.com Brenda Xu’s music has been described as “treading the delicate line between washed-out ambient tones and carefully crafted acoustic arrangements.” Her blend of folk, orchestral, and ambient elements are reminiscent of Bon Iver and Cat Power, but has a distinctive voice which emerged on her last album, “For The Winter.” Since its release in 2014, the album has led to several cross-continental tours in the U.S. & Europe, as well as song placements on MTV & Nickelodeon. Her new album, “Overflow” was added to tastemaker radio station, KEXP‘s rotation, and has been receiving airplay and press coverage in countries all over the world. She has opened shows this year for Lisa Loeb and Josh Rouse, and will be supporting Joan Osborne in upcoming shows next year.

Earshot Jazz: Bill Frisell's Circuit Rider Trio & These Hills of Glory (string quartet & improvised clarinet)

Illsey Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall at Benaroya Hall, 200 University St, Seattle, WA 98101

The quiet genius of trumpeter/cornetist Ron Miles is gaining the long-deserved international acclaim enjoyed by his Circuit Rider band mates, drummer Brian Blade and frequent collaborator, guitarist Bill Frisell.

Opening: The distinctive classical compositions of another collaborator Wayne Horvitz, including his work for the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, debuted at an earlier Earshot festival, have just been released on record. Horvitz’s concerto, “These Hills of Glory,” will be performed by a string quartet and improvising clarinetist, Beth Fleenor.

"These Hills of Glory" combines a classical string quartet, in 4 movements, with an improvising soloist. Performed by four of Seattle's finest and in demand string players (Paris Hurley, Alina To, Heather Bentley & Maria Scherer Wilson), they are joined by clarinetist Beth Fleenor, a long-time collaborator of Mr. Horvitz'. This piece will also be released on CD in October on the National Sawdust label. It will be paired on the release with Those Who Remain: Concerto for Orchestra and Improvising Soloist. This composition was commissioned and premiered by the Seattle Symphony in 2015, conducted by Ludovic Morlot, and featuring guitarist Bill Frisell.

Wayne Horvitz: Snowghost Sessions & These Hills of Glory (string quartet & improvised clarinet)

Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, 550 Winslow Way East, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110

The second of three inspiring shows with composer and keyboardist Wayne Horvitz.

"The Snowghost Sessions" may look like a traditional jazz piano trio, but with the addition of electronics, samples, and Horvitz' signature compositions, it is as much about sonic exploration as it is about swing. The Snowghost Sessions refers to a recording studio in Whitefish Montana where the music was first created. It will be released in October on the Songlines label.
